Drought

Wanjala is one of the four elephants I chose to foster this year through the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.  He was alone due to drought.  As a baby elephant, he could not keep up with his family, who had to search far and wide for adequate water.

Climate change has forced humans to move onto previously wild land, hoping to find decent farming.  It has made animals to go without adequate food and water, often making the stronger more aggressive and the weaker die prematurely.  Like so many areas of the world, Kenya has experienced some of its worst droughts in modern times within the past few years.  Science predicts these extreme weather conditions will only worsen.

It is vitally important for all of us to care about our environment.  Some organizations helping shape sound environmental policies are the Environmental Defense Fund and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
