Do elephants have predators?

Do elephants have predators other than humans?  The short answer is no.  Elephants are large and powerful and no predator can match their strength.

However, elephants form protective herds around their young who are vulnerable to lion attacks.  When in water, elephants form a circle around the young not only to prevent drowning but also to ward off crocodiles.

An orphaned elephant is very much in danger, in other words.
