Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip seemed to enjoy feeding Donna the Elephant bananas. The royal couple were opening a new center for nine Asian elephants at Whipsnade. They watched the morning care routine, and met with zookeepers. The youngest elephant is named Elizabeth after the Queen in celebration of the British monarch’s 90th birthday.
From the Daily Mail:
“Custom designed by award winning architects, the new Centre for Elephant Care, open to the public from Wednesday, will provide a new home for the zoo’s nine-strong herd of Asian elephants.
The luxurious barn, set among 20 acres of rolling paddocks, provides more than 700m squared of indoor space for the elephant herd, including eight-month-old Elizabeth.”
